Of all massage, lomilomi was my first love. I learned lomi, and loved it so much I went to massage school. I love lomi because it is so deeply rejuvenating to the whole person. I have seen lomi “unstick” what was stuck whether it’s in the physical body, the emotions or the mind. When I was in massage school and had moved to the advanced level in student clinic, I was given many clients that had been getting massage regularly but were coming in with the same complaints. Lomi can help shift that.
Lomi was first practiced by the kahunas and family elders of Hawai'i. Today, lomi is practiced by massage therapists and is performed with prayerful intentions and blessings, deep breathing, music of the islands, hot stones, and guided visualization. By addressing the body with such focused intention, deeper levels of rejuvenation can occur so that you may reconnect with your spirit, find joy, and increase the momentum for change and wellbeing in your life.
I use hot stones to ground and warm the body, and guided visual imagery to help you unravel what’s stuck and envision a new story for life. All of this is customized—because everyone needs something different.
With each lomi we allow time before and after to "talk story." Talk story is an opportunity to share the feelings, impressions, and visions each of us receive during your lomi, which deepens and solidifies the benefits of the experience.
In days of old, lomi would be performed for hours or even days at a time for those that desired the most profound transformation. Like a retreat, a three-day lomilomi is a thoroughly nurturing experience for anyone who wants space for deep introspection, physical rejuvenation, and emotional release.
Whether you try a single session or a 3-day lomi, you will feel positive effects in body and spirit. If you have not tried lomi, I highly encourage you to do so!
